Immigration Procedures
Immigration procedures for Mexican nationals
Entering the country
You only need a Mexican passport to prove your nationality. Mexico allows its nationals to enter the country with an expired passport. However, if you are traveling from the United States, US authorities will require a valid passport, regardless of any exemption granted by Mexico.
When arriving in Mexico through Guadalajara Airport, you do not need to fill out any form; just present your passport to the immigration officer. When entering through other airports, you may have to fill out an immigration form for Mexican nationals, which the airline will provide.
Leaving the country
Regardless of the visas you need for your destination or transit points, you must present a passport. You must also fill out an immigration form for Mexican nationals, available at the airline counters, which will be collected before boarding.
Immigration procedures for foreign nationals
Entering the country
Before arriving in the country you must fill out a Foreign Visitor Immigration Form, which you can get from the airline. At passport control, the immigration officer will stamp your passport, keep the upper part of the form and give you the lower part. IMPORTANT: you must keep the lower part of the form throughout your stay in Mexico and return it when you leave the country. If you lose it, you will not be able to board your departing flight until you request a replacement and pay the corresponding fine.
Leaving the country
In addition to the visa requirements for your destination or transit points, you must meet Mexico’s exit immigration requirements. At most Mexican airports, including Guadalajara, there is no exit passport control, so all you need to do is hand in the lower part of the Foreign Visitor Immigration Form you received when entering the country. If you have lost it, you must first go to the immigration office at the airport to obtain a replacement and pay the corresponding fine.
