Agricultural Inspection

Senasica, through its Agricultural Health Inspection Offices (OISA) at international airports, prevents the introduction of pests and diseases that affect animals, plants and people. Its activities include:

  1. Inspection of commercial shipments: verifying compliance with regulations for importing agricultural and animal goods.
  2. Inspection of travelers’ baggage: checking personal goods to detect and manage health risks.
  3. Retention and destruction: confiscation and destruction of goods that do not meet regulations, to avoid health risks.
  4. Health measures: use of disinfectant mats, spraying with disinfectants and supervision of food waste to prevent contamination.
  5. Animal health certification: issuing certificates for pets (dogs or cats) that meet the requirements to enter the country.

Health requirements for bringing pets into Mexico

From the United States or Canada

The pet will undergo a physical inspection to verify that there are no health risks. A Health Certificate and vaccination record are not required.

From other countries

Upon entering the country, you must contact Senasica staff, who will carry out a document and physical inspection. For this you must present a Health Certificate, issued no more than 15 days earlier, in original and simple copy. The certificate must meet the following requirements:

  • Issued by an official veterinarian or, if private, on letterhead with the printed professional license number or a photocopy of it (or equivalent).
  • Include the name and address of the exporter in the country of origin and of the importer in Mexico.
  • State the date of the rabies vaccination and its validity (animals under 3 months are exempt).
  • Confirm that the animal was clinically healthy at the pre-travel inspection.
  • Confirm that the animal has been dewormed internally and externally within the previous six months and is free of ectoparasites.
